Huevos pintos

On our first day, 22.04., freezing, we woke up at 9:44 desperate to get our lovely belongings and read a message from the Iberia airline saying: Recogida: 9:30 (Pickup: 9:30). Panicked, we ran down the stairs only to find an empty street. After a quick breakfast when feeling under the weather, we called the Iberia’s customer service to acquire some information. Waiting on the line while listening to cheerful/terrifying music led only to our disappointment. Because even they didn’t know where our suitcases exactly are and when they will arrive. So we had to stay at home and wait the „package.” Luckily we had enough food for the day thanks to Sergio (more previous post). Eventually we decided to go out and explore the town. Due to this special occasion called Huevos pintos, whole Pola was vibrant with life. Celebrating citizens were bustling on every corner admiring preciously painted Easter eggs. Each one was special with it’s original pattern. You could find anything that came to your mind, from biblical illustrations, flags and fairytales to car brands, popular music bands and scenes from typical asturian day. The scents of famous jamón, chorizo, paella and other savoury and sweet delicacies filled our senses. However the slimy octopus wasn’t so pleasant to see as well as rather concerning foreigner probably illegally selling cheap shoddies at every inch of this beautiful place. 

Our well known Spanish buddies provided us with a great distraction from our troubles showing us the importance and the best of la fiesta. What surprised us the most was a sea of cracked glass bottles of Sidra, plastic cups and sticky surface of the square. Literally, if you stood for too long, you couldn’t move without ripping your shoes open. 

A long expected suitcase arrival made us feel over the moon and we could happily go to sleep. Wait - not really…
